Having survived numerous "routine" earthquakes in the 7.0 + range here in 
Alaska, I can say my tower survived very easily.  Not to disparage 5.5 
quakes - it depends on how deep they are underground.  Closer to the 
surface = more impact.  If it was around 20 miles deep, you'd feel a fairly 
light ground movement.  If it was a 4.0 quake and about 4 miles 
underground, it would feel far more pronounced.  I hope that it was a deep 
epicenter.
