This is in response to a private message
regarding the direction of rotation if the TOP is fixed.

Imagine a rotor floating in space.
Imagine pointers aimed North attached to the upper and lower sections.
Assume the lower portion is fixed and you start the rotor turning CW,
increasing the angle between the pointers.
NOW, imagine grabbing the UPPER pointer, fixing the top of the rotor
with the bottom free to rotate and the power still applied to the same
windings.
The Bottom will continue to increase the angle between the pointers
which means it must turn CCW. QED.
