Well, Coilcraft sure didnt make it practical to rebuild traps on ANY antenna.
I just took 12 traps apart (a4s+40) and it's nigh on impossible to reform the
brittle
aluminum formed area where the (rusty) zinc plated screw fastens the
trap cylinder to the element.
I tried a number of methods to put them back together once the aluminum tab
invariably broke. Screwing through trap cylender, nylon support ring, and into
the element and fastening with a longer stainless sheet metal screw seemed to
be the strongest solution.
The original design works well if you never need to take the traps apart...which
given the quality of the internal hardware used (cheap zinc plated) is a BIG
"if".
