Hmmm, wonder if that is true for a vertical 'dipole'?  Always thought at
some heights, the vertical 'dipole' might have an edge.  Likewise, at some
heights, seem to recall that an inverted vee (30 degree droop below
horizontal) might have the edge over a horizontal dipole.  I realize the
vertical orientation causes secondary lobes at some heights but seems like
that can be used to advantage if the height is properly chosen.  Not sure
the horizontal dipole is absolutely always the best for dx when compared to
a vertical (dipole).

Of course, wouldn't be the first time I got confused.
