I do not have personal experience with the Pirod tower line; however, I have
purchased and used their anchor bolts. I was very impressed with the
professional grade and affordable nature of their offerings. I have a large
catalog of their stuff, which includes the 700 series SelfSupporting towers,
as made by Valmont/Microflect, Salem OR. (I believe Pirod has acquired
Valmont/Microflect). It provides what appears to be professional data and
some detail of how to select a tower, similar to what you find in the Rohn
catalog. They offer engineering data and drawings + PE certification for
"most states". More info may be available at www.valmont.com. In my
professional life, I am aware that Microflect and Valmont supply the telecom
industry with commercial microwave/celluar antennas and related equipment.

Going to be taking one down soon at my NC QTH. Recall some TT folks looking
for these last year for stacking projects. If anyone still has need drop me
a note and we'll make arrangements.

I bought an MD-75 Motor from US Towers back in Nov. It was for a Hygain 70'
Tower. They used to supply the motors for Hygain. When I got it, the
mounting holes had been drilled wrong. I sent them drawing and digital pix
to prove my point. I also had to hire somebody to re-drill the holes since
I
didn't have the tools.

They just ignored me. I have since given up. But now the motor doesn't
work
at all! I'm afraid they won't cover me on my warranty either. Does anybody
have any advice?

Your help is appreciated.

Hello,

Does anyone know much about the Pirod freestanding tower line? Ive never
seen
them to see how they are built. Anyone with experience out there on this
tower? Thanks and 73

Recently, I set about replacing the feedlines on my K3LR-type 80m
array. Each feeder in the original design is 87 feet of RG-8X. I ordered
and received some heavy-duty "RG-8X type" coax and made up the replacement
feedlines. When I replaced the original feedlines on two of the dipoles
that make up the array, I was surprised to see the apparent resonant
frequency of each of them jump upward ~100 kHz.

Looking into the matter, I discovered that the "RG-8 type" coax has a
velocity factor of .72, while that of Belden RG-8X is .8. This suggests to
me that since the dipoles are somewhat mismatched to the coax, and the
different velocity factor yields a different electrical length than before,
this is transforming the load impedance differently and making the
resonance appear to have shifted.

Am I on the right track?

If I cut the new coax to the same electrical length as before (.72/.8 x 87
feet) should I see the apparent resonant frequency return more or less to
what it was before?
