Someone asked this earlier, but I still haven't seen the answer: What is
the _purpose_ of the ground?
If it's for power-line/safety, the braid probably will be fine. But if one
wants an RF ground, braid is demonstrably a poor choice.

Warren... I strip the braid out of old coax that I buy cheap at hamfests. It
lies pretty flat once you get it out. The remaining center conductor can be
used for radials and a host of other things. It's a bit of work but it's
