Got my QST yesterday. Full page ad on the 7-30.....wow, I'm drooling! The
120' tower is Rohn 55. I wonder if it could handle the 7-30 on top. I'm
planning to double guy with star mount on top. We get some serious winds up
here.
I like the Delta loop idea for 160! To polarize vertically, where would I feed
and what is the impedance? Beverages are in the works. Chuck and George (K0RF
and W0UA) were successful in 2002 CQWW working northern UA and other prefixes
long path on 160 during a 30 minute stretch in the early morning hours. I was
most impressed!
BTW - my first antenna party is this weekend. Putting up 15/20/40 setup on a
30' pushup fixed to 4-land. Goal is to do FQP. Make sure you can find some
time to participate 4/24-25. LN has the countdown clock running....

My 4L SteppIRs are separated by about 30-ft, the bottom two are fixed on EU.
I would like to have moved them a little further apart, but the tower I had in
place was only 90-ft.
I haven't seen the 7-30 model. It doesn't seem to be on the SteppIR Webpage?
Delta loops hung off towers work fantastic on 160m (fed so that they are
vertically polarized). You'll need a few Beverages or other RX antennas as
well.

6m Es is great fun from May thru early Aug every year. You can work JA and
EU on Es from Colorado.

I'm returning to the air waves this summer after a 14 year lapse. Planning
to retire soon. Lots of things have changed since I was so active on KH3. I
hate to think that I will be bored with bands other than 6 & 160 as you are
saying on your home page. However, my new QTH is on top of Buckhorn Mountain
(see details from QRZ.COM for long/lat location....it might be a new grid
square for you, hi!).
Can you give me some pointers on good 160M antennas. I have lots of trees
and every direction falls off the top of the hill, with just 30' or so of
reasonably flat surface at the top for about 1/4 mile. I have a 120' tower
installation planned and some smaller towers (40-60 feet).
Will the magic band (6 M) be worth the effort with declining sunspot activity?
Of course my first goal is to make noise in SS and CQWW tests!
