Surely someone will respond with what the manual says for a base for this
tower. I cannot recall the exact base specifications.

I wanted to pass on some experiences with this tower. It is a good tower
suited for unique situations where a crankup is more practical or the only
choice. But a new learning curve or mind-set has to be established if you
are conditioned to conventional towers. Another advantage may be where you
think you may have tower-reluctant neighbors. You can let it grow at night
over a few weeks/months! They serve their purpose.

I had one of these towers in very, very windy Casper, Wyo. I had a TH7-DXX 7
ele tribander and a 2 ele Cushcraft 40m yagi on the tower. Perhaps
overloaded, but never had a problem. I had a HeathKit wind gauge on the
tower. When the needle started bouncing a bit; down came the tower as the
Chinook winds, with upwards of 70-75 MPH gusts, were coming!

I got tired of going out on my deck and cranking the thing up or down in my
PJ's at sub-freezing weather and ended up guying the tower.I want to recall,
I had a 3(+?) ft square hole about 4 ft deep. I put clevis (sp) hooks at
the section overlap points. That means climbing the tower when it is fully
extended; a real no-no....Put a strong steel bar across the tower ahead of
your climb is perhaps a safe way to violate the 'no-no-climb' rule..

At another location in Billings MT, I could only get about 3 foot deep due
to rock. I anchored it very strongly through the eave-overhang fascia back
to the rafters. Additionally, I drove 2 or 3 2" pipes into the sides of the
hole leaving a foot or two in the open hole for added support.

I caution you to crank it down before the winds start up. Once the winds
start, the sections tend to hang-up as you crank down due to the side force
of even mild winds. I have had to bang on the tower to take the slack out
and let the cables catch up with the descending tower; a real unsanitary
operation even for just a few inches of 'catch-up'.
