An interesting thought.  I have found that over the years, (ten or more) even 
if I use NoAlox the two pieces of aluminum really bond to each other.  The 
other thing I have noticed, and maybe it is just a humid, hot Florida thing, is 
that on both sides of  the joint the aluminum  tends to oxidize more rapidly.  
This oxidation is more rapid on the smaller piece.  To counter this, I wrap 
electrical tape for several inches from the joint.  This keeps the oxidation at 
bay.
