I was in the same sort of quandary some months back that is, in choosing a multi-band vertical. I happened along to www.dxengineering.com where the 4-5-6BTV Hustlers are revered. I purchased a 5-BTV along with the 60 connection stainless steel radial plate and the tilt-over bracket mounting fixture. I have read also many favorable reports on the Hustler BTV line.

As far as power robbing aspects I know of none. I have photos of my 5-BTV installation and swr plots at
1. http://www.ad5th.com/5-BTV.html

There are links on that page to the various items I used such as the "Direct Bury 9914F" low loss coax. 73 / DX

Looking at "off the shelf" multiband HF vertical antennas (i.e. R8, 6BTV,
etc.)..

Are there any significant(! (>1dB)) radiation efficiency differences
between them that wouldn't be swamped by such installation dependent effects
like grounding, nearby stuff, etc.

They all look like trapped multiband vertical monopoles, as far as I can
tell, and they're all about 25-30 feet long.

Presumably there are mechanical differences in hardware, etc., but what I'm
really looking for is any noticeable "power sucking loads" that are inherent
in the design (sure, our vertical has a 2:1 SWR bandwidth of 200kHz on 80..
we have a 10 dB pad in the 80m trap!)
