Jim asked about alternatives to N or UHF.

You could look at the HN or even the C types.

HN is more available and offers many of the features of the N but will
handle significantly more power.

I find it interesting that there are questions about the size of the N male
pin diameter. This connector is used in some 'high power' applications well
over a KW at 13MHz industrial equipment. The loads connected to the cables
with the N plugs can be really ugly and for continuous duty. The only ones
I ever saw fail (exciting to watch!) were those where the cable had been
seriously abused via mishandling or just not screwed all the way together.

Several folks have pointed out that N connectors have a pretty small center
conductor (same as a BNC). Is there a RF connector that is:
a) waterproof (nice feature of N and TNC)
b) Easily assembleable with minimal screw up potential (leaves out PL-259s)
b2) Field repairable (ideally no soldering required)
c) inexpensive (<$5-10) in moderate (10-20 piece) quantities
d) handles high power (2kW)
