My 160  4sq elements are now made from #12 or 13 ga
aluminum fence wire. No problem.

I'd never use steel or a nylon coated wire for transmitting.
I had poor results in the 70's using cad-plated steel in an
80M dipole. Bandwidth was pretty wide.
