To which I'll append...talk with Matt, and see what approach he would
take IF you hired him. He's likely to give you 5 minutes or so, which
is all you need.
One chap suggested checking & replacing the element to boom bracket.
My guess is, it's probably time to replace them all.
I don't recall how long you said this beast has been up, but
if part of it fatigued, it's probably time for a thorough PM on the
whole thing. Which says, don't try to fix it in the air. Take
it down and go over it thoroughly.
I don't know OSHA safety requirements concerning man-buckets.
Are they even available for cranes to 200'? And the man-bucket
approach favors fixing it in-situ...which I think is questionable,
given the potential for other components to have fatigued.
The approach I think I'd take is the rohn20 ginpole idea...get a
hoist at 20' above the boom....and attach a tram wire 5' above
the boom, so you can slide it down above the guys.
Do you even GET calm enough days so you can let this happen?
I took down a 100' rohn 25 in the poconos some years ago, at 1800 asl,
and it never blew less than 25kts. You couldn't tram anything. We
had to disassemble in the air and drop pieces down inside the guys.
How'd you get it up there, in the first place?
