In Florida about 5 to 8 years is all I can get out of a set of cables
and I'm 35 miles away from the Gulf.

Oh that's easy:  'cuz UST sez replace 'em every 3 years :-) (even though
they supply zero documentation on the cables). I was supposed to replace
mine in 1987.  I'll get around to it one of these days.
