Hi Lee

I think if you are not using a balun, the length of coax will make a big 
difference in the SWR. You might try adding a chunk of coax and see if it 
changes the antenna.  I have a couple of antennas here that I use that 
method to tune.  They were alright at the base of the vertical, but in the 
shack, the SWR was higher.  Added about 10-15 feet of coax and brought all 
back into spec.  Yes, I know, that is not the way to do it.  73
