During WW2 in the North African desert campaign, the British
were penned in, and communications were down. Thus the
following message had to be sent by word of mouth to allied
HQ ( allegedly)

Sent: The general is going to advance, can you send him
reinforcements?


Received: The general is going to a dance, can you lend him
three and fourpence.
