> I am going to assemble a 200 foot Rohn 55G tower on the ground, including
guys. Then I plan to rent a crane to raise it. I have heard this can be
done by attaching the crane at a point about 2/3 up from the base. What
problem(s), if any, will be encountered in this process? How difficult will
it be to align the base with the lower legs and insert the bolts? Any
special procedure to follow for attaching the guys?
It looks like the overwhelming majority of folks give this a thumbs
down, me included. I've picked up 90' of 45G in one pick and 100' of 25G in
one pick and they were just fine. I wouldn't attempt any more than that.
Picking up a tower on the side is somewhat problematic since the
tower won't be hanging dead vertical and it'll make it tough to get the
mated. It's always better to have the crane pick it from the top so it'll
