| If you have (or can borrow) an MFJ-259 there is an easy way to check. Short the
output connections and measure the SWR. 1:1 means a 1 to 1 balun, 4:1 means a
4 to 1 balun. Even an old MFJ-249 will be sufficient to tell the difference.

  Subject: [TowerTalk] Balun query
  Fellow TTers:
I have a bunch of W2AU baluns, none of which are marked in any way
except the call sign. I also have a Ultra-Bal 2000 model UB-1 balun.
  1. Is there any way to tell whether a balun is a 1:1 or 4:1 or
  whaterver:1?
  2. I have googled the Ultra-Bal trying to find its specs to no avail.
Anyone know what kind it is?
No, I do not own a network analyzer or have access to one.
  Thanks for any assistance.

  Barry - W1HFN
