GA All:

Just found out from my father (WC7N) that he took his tower down. It is a
USTower HDX555. They are planning on moving and he is giving me the tower.
Now, all I have to do is to get it from thew coast of Oregon back to my QTH
near Baton Rouge, LA. I am planning a trip out there later this spring to
bring back some other items they have for me. I will be driving a Ford F150
pick up truck. Right now I have been asking around to borrow a trailer to
bring it back on.\ but so far have had no luck in finding one.

Can anyone offer suggestions as to where to find a trailer to haul that back
(he said it is 24 feet collapsed and weighs just under 900 pounds). Any
other suggestions or help would definitely be appreciated. My main concern
is pulling it through the mountains and I am working on a limited budget.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts on this.

Maybe you could go to the local boat yard and work out a deal with the owner to
rent a boat trailer for a few weeks. Just bring along about a 1/2 dozen tie
down straps and you should be good to go. If you can get an aluminum one that
would be better as it would be easier on the fuel mileage. Just be sure the
hubs are OK as you don't want a bearing failure halfway into or back on your
trip. A tandem axle trailer would be a little heavier but give you better peace
of mind and get you to your destination in case of a flat or a bearing failure.

The trailers you find at U-Haul and such are most likely designed as wide,
relatively short flatbeds and are not long enough to properly support the
tower. And they will be very heavy if you were to find a long enough flatbed
