will
kill you by destroying your pelvis as it transfers all of the force of your
fall directly to your hip bone.

Umm, that's not exactly the typical scenario. With a safety belt around your
waist, when you fall off the safety belt slides from your waist to your
rib-cage where it can immobilize your diaphragm and you suffocate.

I really don't know how it's going to destroy your pelvis. Safety belts
or fall arrest harnesses are made out of soft material - your pelvis would
have to be hit by something really hard at a high rate of speed in order to be
"destroyed". I'm not saying that you couldn't fall ON something sticking out
on the tower that could do it; I'm just saying that the other scenario is
much more likely.

That's why fall arrest harnesses have suspenders and leg loops - 1) so
the belt doesn't slide up and 2) so that the fall arrest lanyard between your
shoulder blades will catch you in a natural position. It's also a potential
life threatening position but at least there's time to launch a rescue effort
before you expire.

Cheers,
