I am guessing this post will do no good, but it is worth a try. I finally signed
off of the SteppIR mail list (with an emotional outburst of my own ;)), because
I tired of the emotional exchanges that take place when any negative comments,
or anything that could possible be interpreted as negative, are made. After I
dropped from the list, I received direct email from a couple of the other
members telling me that they refuse to post any of their questions or problems
there because of the subsequent abuse they receive. I would be nice if on this
list someone could post an opinion either pro or con, with out someone else
feeling it is necessary to set them straight. I have owned a 3 element SteppIR
for over four years. In my opinion it is the best solution performance wise
for my city lot. However in that time, I have replaced six elements on a 3
element beam. That doesn't include the one removed to upgrade to the 30/40
meter dipole. However, I have kept the antenna for two reasons. The company
(SteppIR) paid for all of them including the last three that were beyond my
extended warrantee that I had purchased. This was because the last failures
were caused by a design problem in the controller. The other reason I am keeping
it is because I have a crank up tower and when it is down, I can stand on my
gently sloping roof and work on it. I am always on the look out for a non
mechanical (no moving parts) replacement that would give comparable performance
(on 40 - 10) in the same foot print, but haven't found one.
Anyway here is my plea, let us not turn this list into a pro/con SteppIR flame
fest. There is already one of those.
73,
Ken W7TS
P.S. I have already been informed by a couple SteppIR list members, that the
only way I could have had that many failures was if I didn't know what I was
doing, so don't bother to go there.
PPS. I will go back to sleep now. ;<)
