I'm late on this, since I've been traveling (in Berlin). The
technology used in series mode suppressors is such that they are
practical only up to about 30A, at least with techniques that are
now known. This limits their use to branch circuits (that is, inside
the house after the breaker panel).

Shunt mode devices (MOV's) are fine if they are installed properly
at the service entrance, but can be a train wreck if they are
installed anywhere else (for example, at equipment, in multi-outlet
strips, etc.).
