Sure you aren't thinking of rosin for violin bows?  It's actually sticky.

Candles can be made of beeswax & are fairly available. Craft stores (e.g. 
Michaels) probably have it.

Mcmaster-Carr will also have it.

Any of the machinery/tool suppliers will have it (MSC, etc)

Small quantities of Bees Wax are sold in instrument shops, a  la violins.
 
It is used for waxing the bows - - the last time I heard,  which was a long
time ago.  Maybe they can give you a hint.
