Yes, they stretch and they wear. Both of them are bad, because they
change the "pitch" of the chain slightly (the roller-to-roller spacing),
and that can accelerate wear on the sprockets. The chain is relatively
cheap to replace - Grainger, McMaster Carr, any local bearing and drive
distributor. Take it to the counter, and they will tell you what you
need.
