Have some one you know take a hardness on it. If it is soft, then it would
show up quickly. More than likely it is a heat treatable grade, or possibly
cold extruded 5XXX.

Subject: [TowerTalk] Identifying aluminum alloy

I have been looking for a source of thick-wall (1/8") aluminum tubing, and
recently found one...surplus stuff, of course.

The owner/seller does not know what alloy it is, so I can't determine if it
is suitable for my application. Is there any way to (cheaply) determine the
alloy?
