I don't know that speed is a big decider here. 
Most modern autotuners have a memory feature, and switch in milliseconds 
(however long it takes to count the input frequency, and then select the 
appropriate relays).  You'd make one tuning pass at low power to memorize all 
the settings, and then never deal with it again.
