Hi everyone,

I was stupid and let my ticket expire several years back. However I now have
the bug again, and will be taking my exams up to Extra on Sunday. I will never
make that mistake again.

I need some advice on my situation please. 40m DXing is my interest here. I
live on a small city lot and can not put up a tower. The only part of the
property I have to put something up is a strip of yard on the south side of the
house thats roughly 50' long, E/W x 15' wide, N/S. On the North side of the
strip is the house and on the South side there is a 6 ft high block wall. Here
are my antenna options:

Option 1) Ground mount a 40m vert like the DX Eng 40VE-1 or the hi-gain AV616.
I can probably run 20 radials or so (10 radials stretching east and 10
stretching west). ALL radials will have to be bent 90 deg toward the ends to
fit.

Option 2) Use a vertical dipole such as the Force 12 Sigma 40 which doesnt
require any radials. I could possibly mount it on a push-up mast and get it
high enough so the base of the vertical clears the roof and antenna will be in
the clear.

Any advice or other options would be greatly appraciated either here or my
email, solar7397 at live.com.

Thanks,

Mark McCullen
