It took my insurance agent three weeks increase my "other structures"
coverage for my 65-foot tower as she worked with the underwriters.
We went back and forth with emails, pictures, and questions as to why the
"antenna" was so "big" and what the costs were to replace it.
The neither the agent nor the insurance company had never dealt with a tower
before. (Or realized they were already covering them and no one had asked.)

I carefully explained that the antennas were on top of the tower and the
tower itself was not the antenna.
I provided a detailed inventory of the hardware to construct it, my
equipment, and an estimate for a professional replacement install job.

I explained in layman's terms that to prevent interference to my neighbors,
the antennas had to be above their electronics, and not aimed at them.
And the that laws of physics dictated that long range, shortwave, antennas
be up high and larger unlike short range TV antennas. Just to show it was
not because "big" because I wanted a monument to masculinity.

I also noted that this was a hobby and not was unlike someone having a
garage full of expensive wood working tools to insure against the same
perils a tower might have such as tornados, lightning, and fires.

I mentioned that I had installed anti-climb panels as well to show I had
done some due diligence.

They raised my "other structures" coverage up to include my estimate for
full cost to replace of $8,000.
And they listed the "HAM Tower" as a specific coverage limit.

Only costs me $10.00 per year more for specific coverage peace of mind.
