I just modeled nearly the same situation - a 40-2CD 10 feet under a KT34XA. I
found that at this close spacing, forward gain on the XA on 20 was down ~1.5
dB. High angle rearward nulls get filled in.
If I turn the 40 90 degrees, the problem goes away. You should be able to model
this combination.
Of course, everything is a compromise. It's may well be worth the loss in
performance on 20 to get the performance on 40...
