But for a few $k, I don't think you should have to use work arounds. For the
price of a SteppIR, I don't want to
have to jury rig something to make it last. Especially when I live in
Florida on the beach.

I just helped a friend move his SteppIR from one location to another.  
In doing so we replaced all of the boots and we then took and wrapped 
both ends of the boot with 3M-88 tape and then went back and taped the
whole boot itself so that it is completely covered with 3M-88 tape.  
Hopefully we won't have to do it again for x? years.  We find that
the 3M-88 or 33 will last for years in our northern climate of WI.
