Gene is correct, but the bamboo arms will last even longer if they are  
'cured' by putting them in a trough and covering them with marine  
varnish.  After a few hours, they can be removed and the varnish  
allowed to dry.

I'm sure that the modern polyurethane finishes will do an even better job.

The bamboo spreaders will last a long time ... mine were up for over  
ten years.
