In response to interest, here's my short list of rebuild tips for the KLM KT34
series antennas:

-Make sure the wall thickness on all the 16" capacitor tubes is .049" and not
.058". Some of the KLM's were shipped with the wrong tubing, which really
messed everything up. (thanks K6LL)

-Go to the hardware store and buy some wire brushes, the type used for cleaning
copper pipe inside and outside prior to soldering. Use these on the 1/2 and 3/4
inch tubes to clean the joints where the straps go. Much easier than emery
cloth and removes less metal so the straps still fit.

-The strap at the end of the 15 meter loading section loosens up. (The one that
sets the 'B' measurement). After carefully positioning this where it needs to
be, drill and poprivet this in place on the underside to the tubes. Do NOT
poprivet anything else, especially the capacitor tubes, as they will arc.

-The 3/8 tubes typically get plugged with bug debris. Be sure to clean these
out on the rebuild so air can flow and vent the caps. To prevent bugs from
getting in again, close the ends with black plastic caps - available from M2.
Make sure to put a 1/16" vent hole in the caps for air flow.

-Use a KLM or M2 balun. Don't substitute with a cheapo 4:1 balun.

-Get new plastic capacitor caps from M2 (black in color).

Good Luck. Expect to spend about 30-40 hours to do the rebuild - its worth it!

-Tony, K1KP
