     I did the same thing as you did with the coax and connectors at my 
single point ground bar at the shack end of the coax runs.  The issue I have 
with installing PL-259's or whatever simply to make coax shield connections 
to ground on a tower is this is an unnecessary break in the coax.  It adds 
to the coax system another two connectors that could fail.  And replacing 
these connectors while on the tower are a PITA.  If you choose the 
shield-only connection, the coax remains intact.  You simply must provide 
adequate sealant and/or tape.
