There is usually an ID plate near the bracket on which the winch is mounted. 
Sometimes it's out of view, and often painted over on older towers. Some minor 
detective work is needed.

How would one tell if a tower were a LM-354, LM-354HD or an HM-354? 

Should there be a data plate or descriptive weld?
