I can answer why not just use bulkhead connectors in a piece of angle.   It 
doesn't meet code, which wants a permanent connection between shield and 
grounding system.  That's if you're not putting the coax inside a conduit.  As 
to *why* the code doesn't count bulkhead connectors as a reasonable grounding 
means, I have no idea...

And of course, the local inspector might be happy with bulkhead connectors.
