VOACAP, ICECAP, etc. all simulate this, although they do use some 
approximations.  I would imagine the geometry and assumptions for the 
losses are in the documentation for the program.  And calculating 
statistics for a skywave path is what VOACAP is all about.

What level of detail are you looking for on the propagation? I can point 
you to some pretty detailed work on ray tracing on ionospheric paths, 
but that might be overkill for what you're trying to do
