Can anybody tell me the difference between an Amphenol 083-8SP-RFX and an
Amphenol 182102 UHF Male Connector? The 182102 is a crimp-crimp connector
for RG8/213 and the 83-8SP-RFX is a crimp-solder connector for the same
cable types. The outer crimp connection is the same for both connectors but
what is suppose to be the difference in the center pin of each connector?
The Amphenol drawings for each type have no real means of being compared. I
ordered batches of these two types of UHF Male connectors and to the best of
my engineering abilities (poor in the mechanical area), the center pins look
exactly the same and the center pin diameters measure the same with a set of
calipers. Did Amphenol mismark the packages? To me, the 83-8SP-RFX center
pin looks like a crimp type of connection (hollow center pin, totally
symmetrical with a larger diameter up against a slightly smaller diameter at
the end of the center pin). I see no way one would effectively solder the
center pin of the 83-8SP-RFX. Ken K5RG
