Contrary to another response, sch 10, 20, 40, 80, 120, 160 etc pipes and 
pipe size PVC conduit (standard) all have the same OD, so any size will 
mate to any other size via a coupling or bell end.  The ID varies.

In my experience with water systems, for sch 40 it is usually the 
fittings that fail - elbows, couplings, etc.  so one trick is to use sch 
80 fittings with sch 40 pipe, but the cost per fitting is significantly 
higher.
