I think that comment is an anachronism.  The Telrex was a beefy antenna, 
but with full size elements I don't see how it could be as mechanically 
robust as a modern day coil-loaded shorty-40.  Just too much weight and 
leverage up there for the Telrex, and a properly designed shorty-40 will 
not suffer very much in performance relative to a full size antenna.
