If you disconnect the controller & rotor try sending about 12-18VDC up pins
4 & 5 to the motor. It should turn, and if you swap the +/- it should
reverse directions.

The controller should put 12-18VDC on pins 4 & 5, voltage will vary
depending on the speed control setting.

You should get approx. 500 ohms measuring across pins 1 & 3 up to the rotor,
that is the resistor strip which determines azimuth. The sum of (pin
1-2)+(pin2-3) should also equal approx. 500 ohms.

Doing these tests should help you at least isolate if it's the motor, and if
the resistor strip is good.

Yaesu will repair the control boxes (well, they used to anyway) but the
repair is costly. They do not repair the tower-mounted units. There is a
reasonable used market for the controllers, and any of the SDX/DXA units can
be interchanged if you replace the connectors or build a cheater cable to
modify the connector pinouts.

Subject: [TowerTalk] Troubleshoot G-1000DXA rotor?

Without warning, my 1-year old Yaesu G-1000DXA rotor stopped
functioning. The control box light is on, but no response to the
"left" or "right" switches and the rotor itself isn't turning. By any
chance, has anybody compiled troubleshooting tips, e.g., using VOM at
control box or rotor, etc?

Thanks & 73,
Barry N1EU
