A couple of people have suggested the Slipp-Nott. Before you try one, I 
would suggest you read my tale of woe with a Slipp-Nott which I posted 
on this list in April:

With respect to the suggestion that a smooth galvanized mast under 
pressure can become slippery, that may have been part of my problem too. 
I never had a slipping problem until I replaced a mast which was rough 
surfaced due to the presence of rust with a shiny new one.
