I owned one of these in the 80's and it worked fine however the newer
computer modeled designs (especially OWA) are much better and have greater
bandwidth. Unfortunately moving the element spacing on this antenna would
be quite a project. Sorry, I cannot help with the balun question, I used
the supplied coax match and I am not sure what the antenna impedance is.
