Thanks Dave and Steve for your comments. I will certainly contact Butch and 
much appreciate the intro.

I had thought that a detuning skirt was the same concept as electrical 
trapping, and it clearly is not.

In the latter case one simulates a parellel tuned circuit over a section of a 
tower - which means that it should be tuned for maximum current in that section.

I can see with a detuning skirt on a structure that is less than 1/4 wave high 
that tuning for minimum current would make sense as an ungrounded quarter wave 
will not couple significantly. If on the other hand the structure is a half 
wave high, it seems to me that minimum current would be the wrong thing as an 
ungrounded half wave will merrily couple furiously....

It's at times like this that I realise (again) that things that are apparently 
quite simple really are not!
