I have used the spring loaded roller for years with multiple rotators and
I never had the motor slip. The motors that I have fit close to the fixed
rollers and engagement remains constant. The potentiometer is inside the
motor housing. My rings are made from three pieces and are certainly not
round. If all rollers were fixed the ring would certainly bind. Are the
newer motors further away from the corner of the frame?

I used to have problems with them, but after carl gave me modifications to
remove the spring loaded corner bearing with a fixed one they have been fine.
the newere 1122 rings don't have a spring loaded bearing any more. the one
that has a 40m4lldd on it I put 2 motors on and even it has been fine until
last week when one of the corner bearings worked its way loose,
tightenining it
back down fixed that problem.
