There are references to hanging in a harness cutting off critical
circulation and causing fatality. But if that has ever happened on a ham
tower, have not seen it reported here. By comparison, there have been
several fall from ham towers causing splattered-on-ground fatalities where
climber was free climbing or at least not hooked when he fell. Doug, to
support your case, you would need to show some reports of deceased climbers
removed from hanging-in-harnesses by rescue folks.

The all time Best Story ever read (or link referenced) here on Towertalk,
was the climber who fell from several hundred feet up a commercial tower
while his safety straps were not hooked up. On the way down, while free
falling, one of his loose safety straps snagged on the next guy cable below
and left him hanging there in mid air. After a couple minutes to get his
head straight after that, he shinnied back up the guy cable, over to the
tower, climbed back up to where he had been working, and finished the
job..... Score - Harness 1, Free climbers, 0.
