Ray,
I just joined the list today so hope I am
responding properly. Thanks for the pics. Are
your MARB and MAF parts from 40 years ago as
well? They look brand new. Very nice job on your base.
I'm in Poway north of San Diego. It has been
less than 2 months since our new antenna
ordinance has gone into effect - see page 81 in
Nov QST. This will be my very first tower.
I have power nearby. I'll attach a pic of my
base and see if it gets to the group. This was
from last week before the forms got removed. US
Tower wants the steel template to stay put for 24
hours after the pour, so you can see the elevated
frame which allowed the concrete to be troweled smooth underneath.
Two questions for you - are you going to put
non-shrink grout under the base as US Tower
suggests? And how do you keep the exposed base
threads from rusting? Mine are already starting.

Howard,
For that short of a run, I would use rotator
cable would work. Is the AC going to be at the
base of the tower. For mine, the AC is at the base of the MA770.
My MA770 came from an SK in the Hollywood Hills.
Where are you in So Cal? I grew up in SD, and in
the 70's moved to Ventura and the Ojai Valley.
Retired in 2009 and moved to Chino Valley, 15
miles north of Prescott, AZ. Beautiful county and a very nice place to live. Â
Attached are 4 photos of my installation here in
AZ. I'll have to dig deeper to find the photos
of when I brought the tower to my CA home showing the limit switches.

Ray,
Thanks very much.   I guess that rotor cable would be too lightweight?
I know that this tower design has been around a
long time - I didn't realize 40 years.  The
winds are mostly gentle in my area of S.
California so I'm hoping for 65 feet extension
without too much sway.  I'm putting a Steppir
DB18 (96 pounds) on it.   I will be able to
supervise my tower traveling up and down outside
my shack window.  The shack is just 20 feet from the base.  73, Howard W6HDG

Howard,
The cable should be 8 conductors, and depending
on cable run, 14ga or 16ga. There is no large
current traveling in the conductors, mainly control signals.
I have a 40 year old MA770 in the air, but would
think the mounting of the limit switches and
type are different. I took off the limit
switches on mine, and because of winds, only raise the tower about 2/3 height.
I do have photos of the originally mounted limit
switches but may take me awhile to find them.Ã?
Send me a personal email and I can send you some photos when I find them.

PS, there was another ham on this reflector who
was selling his MA770 about 2 - 3 months ago.
You may want to search the archives for him. His call may be N2JFS???
