Assuming you can tolerate a 3D structure, doesn't a two element 40M quad make more sense? I am using one and EZNEC models show the three element full sized Yagi only 0.2 dB higher gain: 7.7 dBi vs 7.5. It only required a 20' boom and it's a 30/40M duobander.

Have fun with your project! It will bring you great satisfaction when

True - but you can have as much fun for a lot less. IMO a comparable
if not better system is to stack two 2L shorty forties. Lots cheaper,
comparable gain, choice of upper or lower antenna, ability to beam 2 different
paths and you only need regular rotators to turn them.
A local guy built a full-size 3L 40M beam and (this was years ago) the
middle chunk of aluminum for the boom was 300 bucks. Can't imagine what
the total price was. Don't forget to throw in a couple of grand for a prop
pitch to turn the thing.
