There is a big difference between gusto needed to PULL something as opposed to LIFTING something. Asking questions about winches (note I said winches and not WENCHES such as my mother-in-law) are many times answered on the crankup tower reflector site. '73, Mike

Lot of disclaimers here.
The duty cycle is very low.
The winch is not necessarily
designed for controller descent.
(It is for getting your jeep
out of a rut; not for doing a
controlled descent down into
a rut).  The brake is not
necessarily designed for long
term holding.  Etc.

Whenever you repurpose something,
it takes a lot of due dilligence
to confirm that it will work in an
unintended application.
