Hi Rick, Gerald, and everyone,
I have used the ladder line in the 4 Beverages I had in AZ. They were short
about 330 ft and did not really have much F/B ratio which I thought was
about right the way it should be. But the disappointment was the heat and
U/V degradation after 2 years just destroyed the ladder line.
I put in an 8 Circle Hi-Z Array and what a big change! Thanks to Lee at
Hi-Z. These arrays are awesome. 
I am now in Florida cleaning up the acreage I bought and now awaiting my 2nd
hurricane!

Although the dielectric is mostly air, the electric field is not uniform,
and is actually much higher near the wire, right where the dielectric is.
The effect is greater than you might think.  My
450 ohm line is made of AWG 4 stranded aluminum with THHN insulation.  I had
to increase the spacing by about 10% to account for the dielectric.
