You already have the tower cabling and the coax and control wires going from
top to bottom.  And as far as lightning is concerned the tiny gap between
sections, even if there isn't a metallic connection, isn't going to mean
anything to lightning.  When figuring lightning protection for high voltage
power lines we ignored the insulators that were sometimes used on the shield
wires to break them up to prevent 60hz circulating currents because they
would flashover almost instantly from any lightning event... and those had
gaps of several inches.
